4 books I’m reading right now (+ those chosen by my team)

After a slow start to my reading year, April has been a GREAT month of reading for me and I’ve been flipping through books and it’s been so much fun (and good timing as I finalize this year’s Summer Reading Guide which comes out in a few weeks!).

Here’s what I’m reading right now

Styx and Stones by Gary D. Schmidt and Ron Koertge
You know I’ll read pretty much anything Gary Schmidt writes and this one based on Greek mythology was a no-brainer as a read aloud to my girls (I got lucky with an early copy!). Even my youngest, who tends to be very resistant to most read aloud choices, enjoyed this one from chapter two.

Annie Knows Everything by Rachel Wood
It was a fun, light-hearted romance to listen to while I work on my latest puzzle (this one, if you’re curious). This follows Annie working at a tech company in New York and after a series of layoffs manages to fit into a new team where the team leader is too charming for her own good (or his!).

Nate Bargatze’s Big Stupid Eyes
We started listening to it while in France and are now finishing it – it’s a great family listen that makes us all laugh. My girls ask to listen to it every time we get in the car!

Sarah Dessen’s change of plans
It’s been YEARS since I last read a Sarah Dessen book (I think the last one I read was in 2015, when my third child was born!), but when I received a copy of her latest book, I couldn’t resist. I was head over heels for her writing in graduate school and read every book she had written up to that point. It makes me feel 22 again reading one of her YA novels!

And here’s what my team is reading!

Heart the lover of Lily King
I was looking at this book everywhere and when it was nonchalantly sitting on my library shelf, I abandoned my other current read (sorry Emma M. Lion) and started this one. The story follows a college student who begins dating Sam, who is known for his intelligence and passion for academics. As the story progresses, she becomes close friends with his best friend, Yash, resulting in a gripping love triangle and some drama. While the premise may seem familiar, the book feels unique thanks to its distinct writing style and the way the narrative unfolds.

Pomona Afton can thus solve a murder by Bellamy Rose
I was in a bit of a reading slump and this brought me out completely. I couldn’t stop listening (the audiobook was amazing)! When Pomona, a young hotel heiress, loses access to her trust fund after her grandmother’s murder, she decides to investigate herself… only to end up broke, alone, and in a way beyond her means. Along the way, she discovers an unexpected talent, a possible romance, and that money may not be everything after all. This made me laugh out loud more than once. It was such a fun, fast-paced listen.

Ana Lorena Fábrega’s educational game
This book really resonated with me, especially as someone who homeschools my children. Ana Fabrega explains how traditional schooling can transform learning into a rigid system focused on grades and rules, rather than curiosity and creativity. It encourages a more natural, play-based approach, where children follow their interests, think independently and learn through real-life experiences. It was a great reminder to prioritize curiosity, autonomy, and a love of learning over simply “doing school well.”

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
