David Bogozi: I’m a retired firefighter. I live in Locust Grove, Virginia. I have worked in the city of Alexandria for 33 years. I live here with my wife and we have 10 grandchildren who we chase everywhere. I miss answering calls. I miss the guys at the fire station. They were like a second family,
Gregg Eure, MD: BPH is a very common disease seen in urology. So it stands for benign prostatic hyperplasia. And it’s really just a fancy term for an enlarged prostate. So among us men, about half of us suffer from enlarged prostates as we age. And about half of these show symptoms. So it’s a good portion of the population.
David Bogozi: I’ve been in pretty good shape. And then the BPH, you know, it was to the point where sleep wasn’t as common, because I was getting up to go to the bathroom multiple times during the night.
Gregg Eure, MD: As a urologist who treats BPH now, we have many cutting-edge, high-tech devices to help diagnose this problem and we really try to personalize care for the individual case.
David Bogozi: He explained the different options he could offer me. One was aquablation and there was the laser surgery that he talked about. And he explained to me the pros and cons of both. And I liked everything he talked about regarding the aquablation surgery. He said it was the less invasive of the two procedures when he explained aquablation and how effective it was and it didn’t affect my sex life. Well, this is what I would like to have. When can we do it?
Do you have an enlarged prostate?
We offer options to relieve symptoms.
Gregg Eure, MD: At UVA Health in Culpeper, we are very fortunate to have aquablation technology. In fact, we were the first in the state to have this latest version that uses artificial intelligence and more advanced imaging. So it really improves the treatment.
David Bogozi: I’ve been to doctors at both UVA Culpeper and UVA Charlottesville. And the care was fantastic. The people were amazing, friendly, compassionate. Oh yes, the sleep was great. You know, I went from four, getting up four or five times a night, to maybe twice a night. Now, if you had the opportunity to have aquablation surgery rather than anything else, I would highly recommend aquablation surgery. Great results in many different ways. A great improvement in the quality of my life and the quality of our lives.
