4 books I’m currently reading (+ those chosen by my team!)

I feel like I’m just catching my breath after our trip to Boston and all the Halloween costume prep.
Every year, people ask me how I get our kids to make a family costume and my answer is always that our kids drive it, 100%. Frankly, Bart and I would be thrilled not to dress up at all, but our kids all wear the family costumes, so here we are.
In the meantime I’m trying to add some reading: here’s what I’m reading at the moment:

The Academy of Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningingham
This was one of my books for my October Book of the Month box and I’m pretty excited about it! College book? Sounds perfect for this time of year! This is the book I reach for every day when we read as a family as part of homeschooling.

The Great and Only Barnum: The Extraordinary, Stunning Life of Showman PT Barnum by Candace Fleming
We listened The greatest showman soundtrack for years and then my girls rediscovered their love for this record when our Airbnb in Vermont had a record player with this record. We watched the movie last weekend and I picked up this book to read so they would know the real story behind the movie (I read it years ago and loved it – you can see my full review here)!

This time it’s different by Ferdelle Capistrano
This fall romance set in a New York City brownstone sparked so much interest that I picked up the audio and listened to it on my morning walks. So far I’m not completely convinced, but it’s intriguing enough that I kept listening to it.

A Cheerful Little Lie by Sarah Morgan
I finished my first Christmas reading of the season during our trip to Boston and am now on my second. I had a GREAT holiday reading series last year, so I hope this year is just as great! This is about multiple characters returning home for Christmas, all with secrets they keep.
And here’s what my team is reading right now!

The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni
YA fantasy isn’t my typical genre, but that’s why book clubs are really helpful: pushing you out of your comfort zone. All about survival, love and a little magic, this was excellent! I admit, there were some slow parts, however the great parts make up for it and I can’t wait to read the second one!

Soulless by Will Wight
This book is quite different from my usual genre, but my husband has been trying to convince me to start this twelve book series for over two years. Since he’s almost done now Emma M. Leone, volume 8 after convincing him to read it, I thought it was only right to return the favor and try his recommendation. Soulless follows the journey of Lindon, a boy born without a soul or a defined path to advance to higher levels of power. He must rely on his wits and resourcefulness to protect his homeland in a way only he can.

Freida McFadden’s Tenant
Freida McFadden is best known for The waitress (which I also read and loved), but this thriller proves that it has many other tricks up its sleeve. It follows Blake, recently fired from his high-profile job, who rents a room in the brownstone he shares with his girlfriend to make ends meet. Their new tenant, Whitney, seems sweet and perfect… maybe as well Perfect. And of course things are not at all what they seem.
